Hooray!! It is FINALLY summer vacation! This is what kids (and teachers!) dream of in the last few months of school. I love having the summer off to spend with my little family of three. It gives us a nice break from the stress of daily life as two teachers and parents of a toddler. We have been having so much fun focusing on our little girl and doing fun things together as a family and as a couple.
The first two days after Memorial Day, Ryan still had to work, and I still needed to pack up my classroom. It has been challenging to pack up my classroom as I have everything organized and have mixed up my personal things with items that are property of the school. This would be easy to pack up if I knew that I would not be back at TB. BUT there is a strong chance that I could be called back to teaching Kindergarten again, which would be FANTASTIC! I'm still waiting on that phone call though. I thought for sure that I would be called back by now. I wish they would let me know so I don't spend the rest of the summer on the edge of my seat!
So we have already started our summer off with a bang! We took Mady to the splash pad at the park, and she absolutely loved it! She doesn't mind one bit about getting water in her face or the water being freezing cold. Her teeth were chattering, but she still wanted to stay in. We forced her to come out and warm up a bit twice, but she went right back in once we let her. I have a feeling we are going to spend many warm days there this summer. She doesn't even get scared by the big kids there either, even though Mommy panics with their lack of care for the little ones at the park. We are hoping to take her cousin, Ethan, there next week as well. I'm sure that they would have a lot of fun together.
We also went to the zoo on Friday. We got a membership to the zoo this year thinking that we will take her there often. She loved it! It was so much different than last summer when we took her and she'd nap part of the time. She looked at each animal for quite some time and make noises or say "ooooo" and look in awe of them. A couple times she called the lion and tiger a "dog", but I guess you'll have that with a one year old who is still building her schema for these animals. She is an animal lover for sure and protested moving on from animal to animal. She would have watched one all day long if we let her. Getting her to sit in a stroller was impossible so she walked through the zoo the whole time. No wonder why she passed out early last night!
Ryan and I have also found some time to squeeze some fun for ourselves in there as well. Before Mady was born, we did a lot of fishing up at his dad's lakehouse. On Thursday we brought Jason and Andrea up with us and left Mady for the day with her Mimi. We had sooooooo much fun fishing together! We hit the motherload of bluegill and were realing them in left and right. We ended up catching 38 large bluegill between the 4 of us in just a couple hours. It was a great time with great friends. =)
So that wraps up the first week of our summer vacation. I wonder what this next week will hold. My mom's birthday is on Wednesday and I can't wait to give her her present. I know she will love it! I'm also hoping that I can lose this anxious feeling and start to relax some this week. Maybe some craft projects will help me out...
